Description

Just a portrait.

I'm trying to work on my drawing painting skills for a while, so I'm asking for critiques on this one. I can't check the 'Request Critiques' box because I don't have a subscription right now. But if you're willing, toss me a critique in the comments. Don't worry about being nice.

I feel like you have a very good grasp on the contours of your face and have a knack for pose. The piece is very expressive, but I feel too stylized to be realistic. Although the eyes are absolutely gorgeous and I love the shape, I don't find them to be realistic. Also, when you look at your eyes in the mirror, you'll notice you can see a strip of skin between the white of your eye and the lashes. If not, then you have some truly interesting eyes indeed! The thing I think could still use a little work are the lips. The left side looks teriffic, but as they move back into space on the right side, I feel like the perspective is a little off. It's either the lips of miniscus, but as I look at it more, I think it's the miniscus. The lines of it should be vertical still, as vertical lines are unaffected by vanishing points. The nose, however, I love this. The shape is good and the shading is nice, like you took it in parts. You seemed to have found the different areas of the nose and worked on them as their own unique shapes. I think towards the top left of the nose it may have fallen sort of flat, and maybe some more value could help it there. Your piece seems to have really good form and a strong understanding off the human form. It's wonderful overall, but constant praise doesn't necessarily forster improvement, so I'm sorry if I was brutal. I hope at least something helped.
